Born in 1940 in Kanagawa Prefecture. Graduated from Kuwasawa Design School, and after time at Light Publicity, he founded the Katsumi Asaba Design Office in 1975. As an art director, created many famous posters and commercials which left their mark on Japanese advertising history. Founded the Tokyo Type Directors Club (Tokyo TDC) in 1987. Classic works include "Delicious Lifestyles" for Seibu Department Stores, the "Dream Road" for Suntory, ALINAMIN A for Takeda Pharmaceutical, Nagano Olympics official posters, Misawa Design Bauhaus for MISAWA HOMES, and the logo of the Democratic Party of Japan. Visiting professor at Tokyo Zokei University and Kyoto Seika University. President of Kuwasawa Design School. Tokyo TDC Board Chairman, Tokyo ADC member, JAGDA Chairman, Alliance Graphique Internationale Japan representative, Design Association Chairman. Japan Table Tennis Association Councilor, 6th dan in table tennis. Has received numerous awards including the Tokyo TDC Award, the Mainichi Design Prize, the Japan Academy Awards Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, and, in 2002, the Purple Ribbon Medal. Hosted the "Whispered Prayers" exhibition in 2008. Received his second Tokyo TDC Award Grand Prix for the exhibition spatial design and "Diary of Katsumi Asaba" work exhibited there. In the 2013 spring conferment, received The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette in the Culture and Art Division.
