Born in 1978 in Hiroshima Prefecture. Is the first Japanese sprinter to win a medal in a World Competition. Has competed in the Olympics three times. Is the Japanese record holder for men's 400 meter hurdle (as of April 2017). Currently heads a company for holding sports related events and is also director of Athlete Society. Has written books such as "Hashiru testsugaku (The philosophy of running)" and "Akirameru chikara (The power of giving up)"
