Born in 1951 in London. Graduated from University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) with a degree in the Japanese language. Came to Japan in 1974 to work at a music publisher in its copyright department. As a freelance broadcaster, Bakaran currently hosts radio programs such as "Barakan Beat" (Inter FM), "Weekend Sunshine" (NHK-FM), "The Lifestyle Museum" (Tokyo FM) and TV programs such as Japanology Plus" (NHK-BS).
