Associate Professor at IIS The University of Tokyo. Associate Professor at Department of Design, Tokyo University of the Arts. Born in 1985 in Tokyo. After graduating from Imperial College London with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, graduated from the Royal College of London with a Master of Arts degree. From 2013, worked as assistant professor at the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Media Lab, heading a Design Fiction research group. Since a student at RCA, has been making works that prompt viewers to think about and discuss changes in society brought on by technology. Has exhibited at "Cooper Hewitt Design Triennale" (Cooper Hewitt, the United States of America) and "Broken Nature" (Triennale Milano 2019, Italy). Received VOGUE JAPAN Women of the Year 2013. In 2016, received the 11th L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science Japan Special Prize. Was selected by the World Economic Forum as one of the Young Global Leaders in 2017 and TED Fellow in 2019. Among books she has written are "Hamidasu chikara" (The Power of Odd One Out) and "Netto de shinka suru jinrui" (Evolution of the human race through the Internet), a co-authored book which was editorially supervised by Joichi Ito.
