Design journalist and professor at Musashino Art University. Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts (Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Aesthetics and Art History) in 1975. After working as examiner at the design department of the Japan Patent Office, joined the Japan Design Foundation. In 1986, joined Nikkei McGraw-Hill (now Nikkei Business Publications) and helped launch the "Nikkei Design" magazine. Was editor-in-chief of the magazine from 1993 to 1998. In 1998, became professor at Musashino Art University's Department of Design Informatics. Has served as member of the selection committee for the poetry division of the NHK Heart Exhibition, vice president and chairman emeritus of the Design Research Association, vice chairman of jury for the Good Design Award, executive director of the Miyake Issey Foundation and the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. Has authored books such as "Masshigura no hana (Flowers with a purpose) - Nakagawa Yukio" published by Bijutsu Shuppan-sha, "Yasuhiro Ishimoto - Shashin to iu shiko (Beyond the eye that shapes)" published by Musashino Art University Press and "Jun-ichi Arai - Nuno mangekyo (The dream weaver)" published by Bigaku Shuppan-sha.
