Kuribayashi spent some time in Germany after graduating from Musashino Art University in Japan. In 2002, he graduated from Kunstakademie Düsseldorf as a Meisterschuler . Partly due to his experience living in Germany, which has a history of being split into East and West, Kuribayashi explores the theme of "boundaries" using a variety of media. He has had notable solo exhibitions at the National Museum of Singapore (2007) and Chelsea College of Art and Design (2013), and has participated in a wide range of international exhibitions such as the Singapore Biennale (2006) . In Japan, Kuribayashi's Sumpf Land (Wetland, 2006) is on permanent display at the Towada Art Center in Aomori and he has also participated in numerous group exhibitions such as Sensing Nature (2010) at Mori Art Museum.
