Born in Kyoto in 1975. Graduated from the Undergraduate School of Architecture, Kyoto University, and completed the Master's Program Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University. Established Masato Ashida Architect and Associates in 2012 after working at Hiroshi Naito Architect and Associates. In the same year, co-founded ENERGY MEET with Takuya Onishi and Alvaro Conti, pioneering a new field of energy design and conducting activities such as community design and social contribution projects. Part-time lecturer at Chiba University since 2017. In 2018, co-founded Future Research Institute with Nobuko Shimuta and Takuya Onishi as a design research think tank. Major awards include the Future Architect Award, Good Design Award, Kanagawa Architecture Competition, and Asia Design Prize.
